Smoke Poles Ring Out at Fall Trace
Gunsmoke Elected Scout, Goat Runner Elected Asst. Scout

Danny "Thundermoon" Blake looks on as Adam Dykes (with smoking gun) and Bruce "Hot Foot" Pepper take their turn on the firing line.

Cool is not a fur trade era term, but that's the modern word to describe to FCF Fall Trace. Chapter President Eugene “White Cloud” Bowman and Don "Flash 'n the Pan" Wells set up a novelty rifle range that challenged even the best shooters and provided a fun time for all. Also, Dillon "Gunsmoke" Goforth was elected as the new FCF Scout and Colby Pepper as Assistant Scout. These two outstanding young men will represent the young bucks at FCF leadership meetings. Dillon recently received his GMA and Colby is soon to follow.

Everyone began to arrive on Friday afternoon and set-up their lodges for the 3-day rendezvous at Ranger Trails Camp. About 30 young bucks and old timers from across the state came together for a trip back in time to the fur trade era. Fellowship, eating and frontiersmen skills competition was the highlight of the camp. Saturday morning began with the normal sounds just before light: someone chopping wood! Was that you Michael “Uh Hu” White?

After a hearty breakfast, everyone geared up for a day on the rifle range. The novelty course was new to our chapter and added a different challenge to the FCFers. Each team took their turn on the firing line filled with a variety of targets such as a charcoal briquette on a string, a chip on a board, dowels stuck in a post, cards on a board, matches sticking up and a ax head that the shooter would try to split the bullet to break 2 clay pigeons on either side of the blade.

After the novelty ranger, each team ventured down the trail to shoot at several silhouettes placed in the woods. All in all, the day was very entertaining. The best woods walk shooters were Bruce "Hot Foot" Pepper for the old timers and Michael "Uh Hu" White was the best young buck shooter.

The competition also included hawk & knife and outfit. Jimmy "Silver Fox" Vaughn was the old-timer hawk & knife and Dillon "Gunsmoke" Goforth was the young buck winner. Dillon was also the overall winner for the young bucks. He went away with a brand new muzzleloader rifle! Kenny "Fuzzy Bear" Richardson was the overall old-timer winner. He won a custom-made knife by White Hawk. Second Place overall went to Bruce "Hot Foot" Pepper; Third Place, Robin Blake; and Fourth Place, Jeremy "Fuzzy Cub" Richardson. Fuzzy Cub also won the outfit and his dad, Fuzzy Bear won for the old timers.

Raymond “Lightfoot” Mizelle was the special guest speaker for the Saturday evening council fire service. Raymond is the District Youth and CE Director and former District Royal Ranger Commander. He challenged everyone with his personal testimony that illustrated that if you let God be in control of your life, he will lead you and open doors for ministry.

By Saturday evening the rain began to set in but didn’t put a damper on the fun and fellowship. Everyone enjoyed sitting around and talking, telling stories and reminiscing. Sunday, due to the rain, everyone packed up and headed for home a little early after a successful Trace.
