Cory Cole: Mississippi’s First African American to Earn the GMA

MERIDIAN, MS - April 5, 2003
Cory Cole of First Assembly of God, outpost 12 in Meridian, MS is the third ranger to earn the Gold Medal of Achievement at First Assembly and the first African American to earn this high achievement in Mississippi. He actually earned his award in 2002 but was presented the GMA at a ceremony in his honor on April 5, 2003. Family, district officials and church members were on hand to celebrate the occasion.
Ricky King, Senior Commander at First Assembly emceed the service. He began by welcoming everyone and congratulating Cory. Cory, along with his mother, Rosie, and brother, Charles were escorted to the stage. Kenny Richardson read Cory’s accomplishments and advancements followed by a presentation of letters from various dignitaries including President George W. Bush, Governor Ronnie Musgrove, National Commander Richard Marriott and many more. Cory is a member of the Frontiersmen’s Camping Fellowship, has attended Junior Leadership Training Camp and Advanced Junior Training Camp. He has served as Assistant Patrol Guide, Patrol Guide and Senior Guide.
District Commander, Wesley Harmon, presented the Gold Medal. Cory’s mother, Rosie, did the pinning. Cory is the 4555th Royal Ranger to earn the GMA nationwide and the 28th in Mississippi. There was a reception and special GMA cake for Cory following the service.
