Goat Roping, Bull Riding and BMX: New Attractions at PowWow 2007

2007 Mississippi District PowWowThe 2007 Mississippi District PowWow is history and man was it a good one! Commander Bruce Pepper and his staff did an excellent job putting together a very exciting lineup of games and activities for this year's camp.

Outpost from around the state converged on Ranger Trails Camp June 8-10, 2007, with a great deal of anticipation. There were many new activities and some of the traditional favorites such as swimming and paintball games to keep everybody busy during the 3 day camp. The new things at PowWow this year will be "Goat Roping", "Bull Riding", a BMX Track, and to kick things off, a Friday evening concert from a band made up of current and former Royal Ranger standouts. The meals will be provided for everyone Friday which gave more time for camp setup, swimming and relaxation.

The Frontiersmen's Camping Fellowship conducted the Council Fire service Friday evening that also included the annual FCF Callout. This is the official induction of new members in to the ranks of the FCF. The fire was started by a group of missfit FCFers and the show was on. David "PB Bull" Giddens headed up the skits and stunts that kept everyone laughing and having a great time.

Our guest speaker, the former National FCF President Rick Dostal, gave the message with many responding to the alter call.

Saturday kicked off with Paintball games for the older boys and a BMX race for the younger boys. Later, the activity period had the outpost going in many directions. While some were at the swimming pool swimming, others were at the BMX track racing, still others were at the BeeBee gun/Archery/Paintball range. A bull riding apparatus that was a challenge for even some commanders.

The Goat Roping was also a lot of fun. The boys sat on a chute with a live goat inside it. When the boy was ready, he kicked the lever on the side of the chute and the goat ran out of the chute while the boy tried to rope it. The goats won!

Fuzzy Bear's concession stand was available with drinks, candy, snacks and such. It is always a favorite spot for jawing and getting refreshed.

The FCF Village was a lively scene in the late Saturday afternoon as they FCFers cooked for everyone and the boys enjoyed tradeing "valuable" stuff on Traders' Row.

I'm still working on this story ...
