PowWow 2009 Huge Success! Many Boys Respond... God Did an Awesome Work!

Pow-Wow 2009 was a huge success! The Mississippi District Pow-Wow was held at Ranger Trails Camp June 12-14. The theme this year was "Remember the Alamo" with guest speaker, Ryan Beaty, National Programs and Outreach Coordinator. Ryan did an outstanding job at each service bringing the word that God had placed on his heart. Friday after the FCF pageant there were probably 75 to 100 boys who came forward to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. Saturday there were probably over 200 men and boys coming forward for the baptism of the Holy Spirit, healing, salvation and other needs in their lives. God really did an awesome work!

The week-end got started off with the boys eating a pizza supper while enjoying music provided by an excellent praise and worship band. The group "Seeking Shelter" was there for Friday evening and also for the Saturday night service. They did a great job leading us into a time of worship Saturday night. Seeking Shelter is based out of Full Life Assembly of God in Hurley, MS. They would be a wonderful asset to any revival, retreat, conference, youth rally or where ever anointed praise and worship is needed!

Saturday was packed with fun activities all day long. The morning games consisted of Cub Car races for the Discovery Ranger boys and Paintball Games for the Adventure Ranger and Expedition Ranger boys. During the activity periods there was BMX racing, a mountain bike trail, canoeing, the obstacle course, BB gun, sling shots, archery, paintball and everyone's favorite, the swimming pool. Saturday evening we all converged on the FCF village for trader's row and some mighty fine vittles. The FCF team prepared the evening meal for everyone which consisted of grilled pork chops, jambalaya, fresh corn on the cob, boiled potatoes and bread.

Sunday morning the week-end ended with a question and answer session with the commanders and Commander Ryan about some of the changes coming about. The boys met for Sunday school with Commander Dustin "Yeti" Brewer at the stage.

After Sunday school we held our closing ceremony. This year we had four boys who had completed five training camps. We honored each of these young men with the presentation of their sabers. They were Shey Vick, Daniel Hough, Matt Carter, and Samuel Slider. Next came the presentation of the trophies. The winners are as follows:

Commanders,

It is with a saddened heart that I inform you that Commander Ron Murphy went on to be with the Lord this morning at around 10:30am. Ron had fought a long hard battle over the last year or so with his heart complications. One thing for sure, he is not suffering any more as he is rejoicing around the throne! As soon as I have some information about the arrangements I will pass them on to you.

Please keep Gay and the rest of his family lifted up in prayer as they go through this time of mourning.

“Ready” in His service,

Bruce Pepper

QUARTERLY REPORT

Boys Train for Leadership at Annual Junior Training Academy
April 11-13 was our Junior Training Academy. We had boys from all over the district gather at Ranger Trails Camp for a week-end of advanced training.

An advanced Merit Camp was held for boys who wanted to get ahead with their advanced merits. They were able to earn the following merits: Primitive Snares, Primitive Shelters, Aviation, Rocketry, Fingerprinting, Camp Safety, and Wildlife. All of these merits were challenging and exciting for the boys. We had a total of 28 boys participating in the Merit Camp.

A Junior Training Camp, Advanced Junior Training Camp, and a Junior Training Trail was also offered for the older boys. These camps are designed to help the boys with their leadership skills. The things they learn during these camps will be used for the rest of their lives. It will carried back and used in the local outposts, churches, and workplaces someday. There were 12 boys in the JTC, 4 boys in the AJTC, and 4 boys in the JTT.

These were good numbers, but the one that pleases me most was that we had 23 commanders on staff plus others there to help where ever needed. This made for a great Junior Training Academy. Thanks, guys!

15 Join the Ranks of the FCF at the Frontier Adventure
April 25-27 was our Frontiersman Camping Fellowship Frontier Adventure. There were a total of fifteen Young Bucks and Old Timers inducted into the ranks of F.C.F. They learned lots of cool stuff such as black powder shooting, flint and steel, shelters, outfits, knife and hawk throwing, and trap setting. There were also ten Buckskin members who participated in an all night vigil to advance to the level of Wilderness. Wilderness is the highest advancement in F.C.F. Out of the ten, five were district staff leaders.
